Southampton – Tottenham

Southampton hosts Tottenham Hotspur in a game from the 24th round of the English Premier League.

Southampton are currently 17th in the Premier League standings with 21 points won and being on just one point above the 18th Stoke City and the relegation zone. That’s why it’s hard to say that the Saints are in a good situation right now. They really shall improve, if they want to keep their place in the English elite division.

In their last five games they didn’t win neither once. They made three draws and lost twice. They have won just four matches since the beginning of the season and this is no good at all.

Now the Saints will have another tough encounter against Tottenham. The Londoners are 5th in the Premier League with 44 points won so far. They are trailing on 3 points behind the 4th Chelsea. Their main goal remains a quaification for the Champions League, which means that they have to finish in the Top 4. They do not have any other option.

Right now Tottenham are in a pretty good shape. Spurs won four of their last five games, losing points only during the draw against West Ham United at home. It was a dissapointing result for Tottenham’s fans, but we must also admit that West Ham are in a good shape lately under the management of David Moyes.

Tottenham are the favourites here. They are the better team and they have much higher ambitions than Southampton. Spurs are in a good form lately and maybe this will help them to win away from home once again.

As for Southampton, Mauricio Pellegrino’s team can find itself in a serious trouble, if the Saints do not improve their performance. Can we see a different Southampton against Tottenham? We shall see.
