Real Zaragoza – Real Madrid
Real Zaragoza hosts Real Madrid at the Estadio de la Romareda in a fixture from the 1/8-finals of the Spanish Copa del Rey.
Real Zaragoza are currently playing in Segunda Division, but this didn’t stop them from eliminating a La Liga side in the previous round of the tournament. A week ago the Aragons hosted Mallorca at the La Romareda and crushed their opponent with 3-1. Alex Blanco, Javi Puado and Miguel Linares scored for Victor Fernandez’ team, who proved that Segunda clubs can be really dangerous in this competition.
Real Zaragoza are currently 4th in Segunda Division’s standings and they are in a really good shape. The team is currently enjoying a run of five consecutive wins in all competition. Their last defeat came against Huesca in December. That’s a pretty good moment for them to face a powerhouse like Real Madrid.
Real Madrid didn’t struggle very much to reach the 1/8-finals of Copa del Rey. Last week Los Blancos paid a visit to Unionistas de Salamanca and achieved a 3-1 win. Gareth Bale opened the score for the visitors, while Brahim Diaz also put his name on the scoresheet. Unionistas’ Juan Gongora had the bad luck to score himself an own goal.
Just as we expected, Real Madrid’s manager Zinedine Zidane made some changes to his line-up. The French tactician gave playing time to players like Alphonse Areola, Eder Militao, James Rodriguez and Vinicius, who are rarely getting a spot among the starting eleven. The 20-years old talent Brahim Diaz entered the pitch in the second half and even scored a goal.
Real Madrid are the clear favourite in this game, but Real Zaragoza are fully capable of giving them a big fight on Wednesday. They are in a great shape at the moment, winning five consecutive games. Victor Fernandez is a very experienced coach who knows how to prepare his team.
