Nurnberg – Leipzig

Nurnberg hosts RB Leipzig at the Max-Morlock-Stadion in a game from the first round of the DFB Pokal. This is an official start of the 2020/21 campaign for both teams. Let’s try to preview it.

Nurnberg are currently part of th 2. Bundesliga. For a long time they were playing in the Bundesliga before getting relegated. Nurnberg’s primary goal remains return to the elite division of German football.

Nurnberg are currently managed by the 35-years old Robert Klauß. For him this is going to be a first season as a manager. Before this Klauß was working in RB Leipzig’s youth system. Now he will face his former club.

There are some foreigners in Nurnberg’s current squad. We could name Netherlands’ Virgil Misidjan, Austria’s Georg Margreitter and Australia’s Sarpeet Singh. The core of the team is made by German players and that’s good.

RB Leipzig will try to make another successful season just like the previous one. The Red Bulls surprised us all when they reached the 1/2-finals of the Champions League. It was just another proof how good the manager Julian Nagelsmann is. It was his first season in Leipzig and he showed the whole world what he can do.

On the market RB Leipzig part ways with Timo Werner, but they quickly signed a replacement. The club spent 15 million euro for RB Salzburg’s Korean striker Hee-chan Hwang. He’s just 24-years old and his attacking qualities could help Leipzig replace Werner.

These are our thoughts about the DFB Pokal fixture between Nurnberg and RB Leipzig from the first round of the competition. There’s no doubt who’s the favourite here. The Red Bulls gained a lot of confidence in the Champions League last season, so we expect to see them even better during the 2020/21 campaign.
