Monaco – Besiktas

Monaco hosts Besiktas in a match from Group G of the UEFA Champions League.

Being champions of France, Monaco were regarded as the big favourite in this group. But so far things are looking much different. Besiktas are leading the table with 6 points from two matches, while Monaco have won just one point so far – during the 1-1 draw with RB Leipzig in the first round. After this Leonardo Jardim’s team suffered a terrible defeat with 0-3 against Porto at home.

Meanwhile Besiktas made two important steps towards the next stage of the competition. The Turkish champion won its first two games against Porto and RB Leipzig, being perfect in the group so far – 6 points from 6 possible. Can they continue with their fine form against Monaco as well?

We can be sure in one thing – Monaco are going to be motivated to redeem themselves for the loss against Porto. It would be very dissapointing for them, if they don’t qualify for the 1/8-finals of the Champions League. Last season the French team reached the 1/2-finals of the competition and they were one of the best teams in it. But in their defense we can remind everyone that during the summer Monaco sold a lot of its star players to other clubs. It’s absolutely normal to see them struggling after so many important players leaving the team.

Right now Monaco are struggling in Ligue 1 as well. Jardim’s side won just one point in its last two games against Montpellier and Olympique Lyonnais. Right now Monaco are already trailing on six points behind the leader PSG, which is not a good sign at the beginning of the season.

Meanwhile Besiktas also won just one point in their last two matches in the Turkish Super Lig, so we can say that these two sides are in a similar form at the moment.
