Eintracht Frankfurt – Benfica

Eintracht Frankfurt hosts Benfica in a second leg from the 1/4-finals of Europa League. Let’s take a look at this fixture at the PSD Bank Arena in the city of Frankfurt am Main.

The German side is performing very strongly this season, but now they have a very difficult task against Benfica. This is because the first leg in Lisboa ended with a 4-2 win for the Portuguese team. This gives Benfica a serious advantage before the second leg, but in same time these two away goals, scored by Eintracht, could really help the home side to progress.

The first leg at the Estadio da Luz was a pure master class spectacle by Benfica’s Benfica’s 19-years old superstar Joao Felix. The super talented teenager scored a hattrick for the Eagles, putting Eintracht to their knees. Ruben Dias added one more goal for the Portuguese team.

Despite of this, Eintracht kept their chances to progress, thanks to goals from Luka Jovic and Goncalo Paciencia. These two goals could be crucial for the Germans, if they find a way to get the right result in the second leg.

Of course, here’s the moment to remind you that in Lisboa Eintracht played 70 minutes with 10 men on the pitch. The French defender Obite N’Dicka was sent off after just 20 minutes of playing at Da Luz. More or less, this allowed Benfica to dominated and win the game with two goals margin.

We expect the game between Eintracht Frankfurt and Benfica on Thursday night to be a game of chess. The Germans know that a win with two goals margin could allow them to progress, while Benfica will try to use their counter-attacking strenght in order to hurt Eintracht. The younster Joao Felix is in a spectacular form at the moment, so the hosts will have to watch out for him.
