Basel – St. Gallen

The champion Basel hosts St. Gallen in a match from the last 36th round of the Swiss Super League.

It was another dominant season for Basel in the domestic league. They are clearly the best team in the country, which they proved with winning the league for just another season. And they did it in a really impressive fashion. Basel currently have 83 points won, which is 17 more than the 2nd team in the table – Young Boys.

They have won 25 of their 35 games so far, losing just two times – against Young Boys. Basel have scored 88 goals in 35 games and conceded just 34. Stats which are showing us why they have won the league for just another season.

Their biggest dissapointment was suffered in the Champions League, where they have finished last in their group, which didn’t allow them to continue in Europa League.

It was a great season for Basel’s Seydou Doumbia. Former player of CSKA Moscow and Roma, the African striker scored 18 goals in the league so far. Just a round before the end of the league, he’s the competition’s leading goalscorer alongside Young Boys’ Guillaume Hoarau. Who will end the season as the Super Lig’s top scorer? We shall wait and see.

As for St. Gallen, they had a mediocre season in the Super Lig. St. Gallen are currently 7th in the league, but they can eventually surpass Thun and end their campaign at 6th places. But this is going to be very difficult, because they have to beat Basel at the St. Jacob-Park at the last round of the league. And nobody was able to beat Basel at their home ground this season.

The last four games between these two teams were won by Basel – 4-2, 3-1, 1-0 and 3-0. They are clearly dominating St. Gallen, which makes them the heavy favourite in this clash as well.
