Arsenal – CSKA Moscow

Arsenal welcomes CSKA Moscow in a first leg from the 1/4-finals of the Europa League. The game is going to be played at the Emirates Stadium in London.

For Arsenal it’s a pretty much a difficult season so far. The Gunners almost lost their chances of reaching the Top 4 of the Premier League, which means that they have only one chance to qualify for the Champions League – by winning Europa League.

Right now Arsenal are 6th in the English Premier League, trailing on 13 points behind the 4th Tottenham. It’s obvious that Arsenal’s chances of finishing 4th this season are almost non-existent.

Arsene Wenger’s team reached the 1/4-finals of Europa League by eliminating Italian giants AC Milan from the competition. After a comfortable 2-0 win at the San Siro, Arsenal won the second leg at the Emirates with 3-1. It’s safe to say that the Gunners didn’t have much problems against Gennaro Gattuso’s boys.

Before this, Arsenal eliminated the Swedish team Ostersunds, despite of surprisingly losing the second leg at home.

CSKA Moscow on the other hand reached the 1/4-finals, eliminating the French side Olympique Lyonnais. CSKA surprised a lot of people by doing this, after they lost the first game at home. But a 3-2 win in Lyonnais allowed them to reach the next phase of the tournament.

In the Russian Premier League CSKA Moscow are currently 3rd, trailing on 5 points behind the leader Lokomotiv Moscow. They still have chances of winning the title, but it won’t be easy. In their last five games in the Premier League, CSKA are almost flawless – four wins and just one loss against town rivals and reigning champions Spartak Moscow.
